GOTO Scholarship Overview (GOTO-NYC)

GOTO awards scholarships in partnership with selected New York City Public Middle schools. The scholarship covers a 4-week session at Appel Farm located in Elmer, New Jersey, where scholars have their choice of studying just about any art form they would like. The scholarship is renewable for up to three years, provided scholars submit a new application which shows they still meet GOTO's selection criteria in motivation, character, family support, and financial need.

DECEMBER 11, 2009

Sixth grade teachers should identify one boy and one girl from their class who demonstrate artistic interests and nominate them for GOTO scholarships.  (Nominations should be submitted via email to michelle.hunter@thegotogroup.org )

   

JANUARY 4, 2010

 

All students nominated by educators will receive congratulatory letters and details about the GOTO information session.

 

 

MID-FEBRUARY 2010

At the information sessions, students will learn about Appel Farm summer camp program, meet GOTO volunteers and hear former scholarship recipients speak about their experiences.  GOTO volunteers will also explain the application process to students and parents, and answer questions about the process.

 

 

MARCH 19, 2010

APPLICATION DEADLINE

All students must submit their completed application to GOTO by mail or fax by March 19, 2010.  

 

 

MID APRIL 2010

SCHOLARSHIP ACCEPTANCE AND WAITLIST LETTERS SENT

After reviewing student application materials, GOTO will send letters to all applicants, notifying them of whether they have been selected to receive a scholarship.

 

 

LATE APRIL / EARLY MAY 2010

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT EVENT

Scholarship recipients and their parents will be invited to meet each other, as well as past scholarship recipients who will be returning to camp.
